Scholarship Information:

The Danie Thomssen Memorial Scholarship was created with memorial contributions by family, friends, classmates, and members of the community after Danie’s sudden passing in February of 2017. The scholarship is meant to recognize her love of music, celebrate her life, and honor her memory.

Danie Thomssen (Class of 2016) was a vibrant and active part of the band program at Century High School. She was a member of the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble #1 during her junior and senior years, where she played both tenor sax and lead alto sax. She also participated in the Color Guard and “Spirit of ‘76” and student led jazz combo. Danie was a wonderful musician, tremendous leader, positive role model, and faithful friend both in and out of the classroom. In many ways, she exemplified some of the highest qualities we all strive to achieve – authenticity, loyalty, kindness, initiative, self-discipline, sound moral character, and a genuine zeal for life. At the time of her passing, Danie was in her first year at North Dakota State University where she was majoring in Biological Sciences. It was her goal to become an orthodontist. While at NDSU, she continued to embrace her love of music by participating in the Gold Star Marching Band.

A $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded annually to one senior in the Century High School Band program. The recipient will be selected by the band directors and must demonstrate a strong sense dedication to the band program, leadership in the classroom, self-discipline in their practice, and a high level of musical excellence.
