BPS AVID
No matter what post secondary path students choose, they must develop certain essential skills to design their own futures: AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a global nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the opportunity gap and preparing all students for college, careers, and life. AVID empowers students—especially those traditionally underrepresented in higher education—by teaching critical thinking, collaboration, reading, writing, organization, and relationship building. This helps students gain the tools, knowledge, and support to reach college and persist through graduation.
In BPS, the AVID Elective Class is offered 6-12 at each secondary school. AVID students receive intentional support and mentoring in rigorous academic preparedness, opportunity knowledge, and student agency. In exploring opportunities for life after high school, AVID students meet their class standards through visits to various college campuses in and near North Dakota. Over the course of 6 years in AVID, students will have visited an average of 11 college campuses.
Your donation helps transform lives in a tangible way—by making college campus visits possible for students who might not otherwise have the opportunity. Your support helps to remove financial barriers in traveling to these campus visits so that these hard working and determined students can visualize their futures.
