BPS Foundation Announces Sharon Burian Memorial Scholarship for Adult Learning Center Graduates.

The Bismarck Public Schools Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of the Sharon Burian Memorial Scholarship, created by her son, Steve Burian, to honor Sharon’s lifelong dedication to education.

Sharon began her career with Bismarck Public Schools in 1984 as a coordinator and instructor at the Adult Learning Center, where she spent 22 years teaching, mentoring, and inspiring adult learners before retiring in 2006. She was a passionate advocate for education and an active member of the Bismarck Education Association, the North Dakota Education Association, the National Council of Teachers of English, and the North Dakota Adult Basic and Secondary Education Association.

Following her passing in September 2024, this scholarship was created to carry on her legacy of empowering learners of all ages. Each year, one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of the Adult Learning Center who plans to continue their education at a college, university, or technical program. Recipients will be selected based on their character, commitment, and perseverance in pursuing educational goals.

Additional scholarship information, including applicant criteria and application form as well as ways to contribute can be found here: https://bpsfoundation.com/project/sharon-burian-memorial-scholarship/
