First in the Family Scholarship developed to assist students who will be the first in their family to attend post-secondary education

The Bismarck Public Schools Foundation is proud to announce the development of a new scholarship! The First in the Family Scholarship was established by Mylo and Jan Candee. The scholarship will be awarded to graduating seniors from Bismarck Public Schools who will be the first in their family to enroll in a post-secondary college and/or university. It was permanently endowed to positively impact our community; when we lift up others, we lift up our community as a whole.

Education is often referred to as the great equalizer. It can open doors to jobs, resources and skills that can elevate a family’s opportunities and quality of life for generations to come.

Mylo Candee is a former BPS School Board member and is cognizant of how our actions made today can create a long-lasting impact for generations to come. For those that understand the importance of elevating our community through this initiative, we ask that you consider donating to this important cause.

The Advisory Committee shall consist of the BPS scholarship committee/counselors with the intent of one $1000 scholarship to be awarded annually to a student with a demonstrated financial need who is the first to attend a North Dakota trade school, college and/or university.
